How to play Footy Draft: build an all-time team and go 23-0
A footy draft game is a quick way to test how well you know Aussie rules history. Here is everything you need to know.
1. The spin
Every pick shows a random club-season on the scoreboard – for example 1996 North Melbourne, 2nd, 16-6, premiers. You see that club's list with each player's games, disposals and goals that season. Ratings stay hidden.
2. Twelve spots on the ground

| Bench | Two interchange players (any position) |
Tap a player and he goes to the best open spot for him. A key forward goes to full-forward or centre half-forward first; a ruckman can only play in the ruck (or on the bench). Out-of-position players lose a little rating.
3. Scout and jokers
You get one scout per draft (shows the hidden ratings of one list) and two jokers (spin again). Use jokers on weak lists, not on strong ones that just miss your open spot.
4. The season
Your twelve play 23 rounds against the current 18 clubs: goals and behinds by quarter, goal kickers, disposals and 3-2-1 votes for every game. The top eight play the finals – qualifying and elimination finals, semis, prelims and the grand final at the MCG. Win all 23 and the flag for the perfect season.
5. Modes
- Daily draft – same spins for everyone, worldwide ladder.
- Club mode – the all-time team of one club (see ours).
- Era mode – one decade or a single season.
- Salary cap – every player has a price; fit twelve under the cap.
- Mate's code – share a six-digit code and your mates get exactly your spins.
Tips for 23-0
- Rucks and key forwards are scarce – grab a great one when you see him.
- Midfield depth wins games: centre, rover and wing all feed the forwards.
- Premiership and Brownlow-era seasons hide the best ratings, but a champion in a bottom side is still a champion.
